My Story
A Cracking Story
The Fabric Cracker Company, was born of a need to find a more sustainable way for my family to enjoy traditional Christmas crackers.
For many years I had made my own crackers using toilet roll tubes and wrapping paper but I was still unhappy with the amount of waste produced.
I had seen various fabric crackers on line all of which (although lovely) could not be pulled like a traditional cracker.
So after much trial and error I finally found a way to make fabric crackers that could be pulled and can be used year after year reducing the waste to just about zero!
Eventually after a very successful 'cracker pull' one Christmas and after making crackers for a special dinner party I was encouraged by family and friends to consider selling my crackers - so here I am!
A Family Heirloom
All the crackers are hand made by me at home on the family farm in Wales.
I use good quality polycotton fabric, satin ribbons and sturdy cardboard tubes.
The crackers are plastic free and reusable time and time again offering a stylish sustainable alternative to the traditional cracker.
The crackers come to you empty ready to fill with a gift of your choice giving it a much more personal touch.
A supply of snaps is provided so you can enjoy the all important 'bang' if you choose to.
The crackers come in boxes of 6 or 4 but I am happy to work with you on the number of crackers required.
I'm also happy to consider any particular design, colour or theme you may have in mind.
Consider the crackers an investment for years to come, hopefully becoming a much loved family heirloom.
CRACKER WASTE
It is estimated that 150 million Crackers are sold in the UK every year.
Think about what goes into a Christmas cracker –
the plastic toy, glittery paper, shiny paper hat, plastic ribbons, there's very little, if anything that can be recycled
Millions of these are pulled and immediately binned every Christmas Day with 99% of people putting cracker gifts in the bin by the end of the day. It's madness!
And then if you factor in that millions upon millions of these things are shipped around the world before reaching our tables.
The impact on our environment, energy and resources is staggering!
